Ranked Mode Guide

Ranked Mode is a competitive battle mode in Modern Warships where commanders can put their skills to the test, face worthy opponents, and compete for valuable rewards.

Unlike regular battles, every result affects your ranking. Win battles, earn ranking points, climb through the leagues, and compete for a place among the top players of the season.

By participating in Ranked Battles, you can earn special currencies, titles, and other rewards. The coins you earn can be exchanged for powerful ships, equipment, and cosmetic items in the Ranked Store.

How to Unlock Ranked Mode

Ranked Mode becomes available at Level 23.

You can access it through the dedicated Ranked Mode widget in the bottom-right corner of the main lobby or through the game mode selection menu.

When you open Ranked Mode for the first time, an information window will introduce you to the mode's features and available rewards. From there, you can go directly to Ranked Mode or open the Ranked Store.

If you haven't participated in Ranked Battles before, a special indicator will help you find the To Battle! button and start your first battle. This hint does not restrict your controls and disappears once you begin your first Ranked Battle.

To participate, you'll need a Tier III ship and equipment permitted under the Ranked Mode rules. We'll explain these restrictions in more detail below.

Qualification: Your First Steps in Ranked Mode

Before you can start climbing through the leagues, you need to complete Qualification.

Qualification consists of 5 battles, and your results determine your starting rank and league.

The better you perform during your qualification battles, the higher your starting rank may be.

Until Qualification is complete, your qualification progress is displayed instead of your regular ranking. You can see how many battles remain in the Ranked Mode window and on the Ranked Mode widget in the main lobby.

Once you've completed Qualification, you'll see your starting league and ranking points, and you'll be able to track your progress toward the next league.

Try to finish your qualification battles without leaving early. This helps the system determine your starting rank more accurately.

What Happens if Your Ship Is Destroyed Before the Battle Ends?

If your ship is destroyed, you can leave the battle without waiting for it to end. This does not count as leaving an active battle prematurely.

However, the result will only be recorded once the entire battle has ended. Because of this, your qualification progress and ranking points may take a little longer to update.

The same rule applies to regular Ranked Battles: the battle result is calculated and recorded after the match ends, regardless of whether you wait for the results screen.

Auto Qualification

Experienced participants don't necessarily have to complete Qualification again every season.

If you played 10 or more battles during the previous Ranked Mode season, the system will automatically determine your starting rank, taking the seasonal rank reduction into account.

This allows active participants from the previous season to immediately resume competing for higher positions.

Leagues and Ranking Progression

All Ranked Mode players are assigned to leagues based on the number of ranking points they have earned.

There are five main leagues:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond

Each league is divided into three divisions.

You need to earn 200 ranking points to advance from one division to the next.

The higher your league, the more valuable the rewards you can receive at the end of the season. However, maintaining a high position isn't easy: defeats can cause you to lose points and drop in the rankings.

How Are Ranking Points Calculated?

Your ranking point changes after a battle depend on several factors.

Battle result. You gain ranking points for victories and lose them for defeats. In the event of a draw, your ranking usually changes only slightly. However, if there is a significant difference between the teams' rankings, the change may be substantial. For example, a player in a high league may lose a noticeable number of points after drawing against a much weaker team.

Strength of the opposing teams. The system takes into account the difference between the rankings of players on both teams. Defeating stronger opponents earns you more points, while defeating weaker opponents earns you fewer.

Personal contribution. The number of points you gain or lose also depends on your position on your team's final scoreboard.

This means that both victories and individual performance matter. Try to make the greatest possible contribution to your team and maintain consistent results.

If you lose your connection during a battle, the final change in your ranking points will be calculated according to the standard rules after the battle ends.

How to Track Your Progress

The updated Ranked Mode widget in the main lobby displays key information about your progression:

  • your current league and number of ranking points;
  • a progress bar showing how close you are to the next league;
  • the seasonal reward for the next league.

If you're still completing Qualification, the widget displays your qualification progress and the number of remaining battles instead of your ranking.

If you've reached the highest league, the progress bar and next-league reward are no longer displayed, but you can still see your current ranking points.

This allows you to check your achievements and see how many points you need to reach your next goal without opening a separate Ranked Mode window.

Matchmaking and Playing in a Squad

Ranked Mode uses a separate matchmaking system that takes players' current rankings into account.

Its goal is to create teams with comparable skill levels and maintain balanced battles.

You can play solo or together with friends in a squad of up to three players.

There are restrictions on the difference in ranking points between squad members. If the difference is too large, the squad won't be able to enter a Ranked Battle.

During Qualification, players must participate in Ranked Battles solo.

How to Reduce Ranked Battle Matchmaking Time

When finding opponents, the system takes into account players' rankings and team composition requirements.

Sometimes finding a battle may take longer than usual. If this happens, try selecting a ship of a different class.

Switching ship classes can reduce your waiting time and help you find a suitable match faster.

Seasons and Bonus Ship Classes

Ranked Mode is divided into separate seasons.

Each season lasts 28 days and begins on the first day of the month. During this time, commanders earn ranking points, climb through the leagues, and compete for positions on the leaderboard.

Each season is divided into four periods, each lasting seven days.

Ranking Point Bonuses

During each period, certain ship classes receive a bonus to the ranking points they earn.

The bonus applies to four ship classes at a time and provides a ×2 multiplier to ranking points earned.

Each bonus ship class is limited to 15 bonus battles.

Once a period ends, the list of bonus ship classes changes.

Take advantage of these bonuses to climb the rankings faster, try different ship classes, and adapt your tactics to the current season.

You can check the current bonus ship classes in the Ranked Mode interface.

Ship and Equipment Restrictions

Not all ships and equipment are available in Ranked Battles.

To maintain competitive balance, newly introduced ships and equipment cannot be used in Ranked Mode for two months after their release.

The developers may also restrict certain ships or equipment regardless of when they were introduced.

How to Check Equipment Eligibility

Ships and equipment available for Ranked Battles are marked with a special indicator on their item cards.

If your selected ship or installed equipment does not meet the mode's requirements, you'll need to change your loadout before entering a battle.

The list of permitted equipment may change, so we recommend checking that your ship meets the current restrictions before participating.

Rewards for Ranked Battles

By participating in Ranked Battles, commanders can earn special currencies and other rewards.

Ranked Mode features two main currencies:

  • Ranked Battle Coins — earned by participating in Ranked Battles.
  • Ranked Season Coins — awarded for your achievements at the end of the season.

Both currencies can be accumulated and carried over between seasons.

Ranked Battle Coins

Ranked Battle Coins are awarded for your first 10 Ranked Battles each day.

The number of coins you receive depends on your battle performance, including:

  • damage dealt to enemies;
  • number of enemies destroyed;
  • contributions to assists.

The more effectively you perform in battle, the more coins you can earn.

Ranked Season Coins

Ranked Season Coins are awarded at the end of the season to players who have completed Qualification.

The number of coins you receive depends on the league you have reached.

The higher your position at the end of the season, the more Ranked Season Coins you'll receive.

You can use them to purchase special ships, equipment, and cosmetic items in the Ranked Store.

Additional Event Rewards

Ranked Battles may also provide rewards from certain in-game events.

If the current event's rules allow it, you can earn Event Progress Points (EPP) by participating in Ranked Battles.

This allows you to climb the Ranked Mode leaderboard while also progressing through in-game events, without having to switch between different game modes just to earn event points.

The availability and amount of these rewards depend on the rules of the specific event.

Information about earned rewards is displayed on the updated battle results screen, along with ranking point changes, received currencies, and other battle results.

Please note that additional event rewards are only available in events that specifically support earning them through Ranked Battles.

Ranked Store

The Ranked Store gives you the opportunity to expand your fleet with powerful ships and equipment without spending real money.

Its selection includes valuable ships and weapons capable of competing with some of the best premium offerings. This equipment can be an excellent addition to your fleet and help you perform more effectively across different game modes.

The main advantage of the Ranked Store is that all these items can be obtained for free by earning special coins in Ranked Battles and progressing through the leagues.

In addition to ships and equipment, the store offers exclusive cosmetic items that let you showcase your achievements.

The Ranked Store periodically receives new offers. Every few months, new ships and equipment sets are added, giving you more opportunities to expand your fleet's combat capabilities.

Items from previous seasons also remain available for purchase on a timer, allowing you to continue saving coins for the equipment you want.

Purchases with Ranked Battle Coins

For 900 Ranked Battle Coins, you can purchase one of the following:

  • 5 Ranked Season Coins — to save up currency for more valuable purchases.
  • Rank Protection — a special consumable that prevents the loss of ranking points in case of defeat.

Rank Protection can also be purchased for 700 Gold.

After purchasing an item, the same item becomes available for purchase again after 24 hours.

How Does Rank Protection Work?

To use Rank Protection, you must activate it in the Ammunition window before entering a battle.

If you are defeated, activated Rank Protection prevents you from losing ranking points.

Important: Activated Rank Protection is consumed in every Ranked Battle, regardless of the result. Even if you win and don't need its protection, the consumable will still be used.

If you don't want to use up your Rank Protection consumables, deactivate Rank Protection in the Ammunition window before starting a battle.

After a battle in which Rank Protection prevents ranking point loss, the game displays the number of ranking points you saved.

Purchases with Ranked Season Coins

Ranked Season Coins can be exchanged for more valuable rewards, including:

  • ships;
  • equipment;
  • cosmetic items.

The Ranked Store offers equipment that can become a key part of an effective combat loadout. You don't need to spend real money to obtain it — simply participate in Ranked Battles, earn coins, and gradually save up the required amount.

The selection is updated with new seasons, while offers from previous seasons remain available for purchase on a timer.

How to Find New Items

To avoid missing store updates, look for the special New indicator.

It appears when you first unlock Ranked Mode and when new items are added to the Ranked Store.

The indicator may appear:

  • on the Ranked Mode widget in the main lobby;
  • on the button leading to the Ranked Store;
  • on the Ranked Store tab;
  • on the cards of newly added items.

Once you have viewed the relevant new items, their indicators disappear.

This makes it easier to find new offers and keep track of store updates.

Leaderboard and Seasonal Rewards

In addition to progressing through the leagues, commanders compete for high positions on the seasonal leaderboard.

Leaderboard positions are determined by the number of ranking points earned.

You can track your results and compare your achievements with those of other players in the Leaders section.

League Rewards

At the end of the season, participants receive rewards based on the league they have reached.

In addition to Ranked Season Coins, special titles are available for higher leagues.

For example, commanders who finish the season in the Platinum or Diamond leagues may receive corresponding seasonal titles.

Rewards for Top Players

At the end of the season, the top 100 commanders receive additional rewards based on their leaderboard positions, including Artcoins and a special seasonal title.

The number of Artcoins depends on your final position:

Leaderboard Position

Leaderboard PositionReward
1st place500 Artcoins + title
2nd place350 Artcoins + title
3rd place250 Artcoins + title
4th–10th place150 Artcoins + title
11th–50th place100 Artcoins + title
51st–100th place50 Artcoins + title

The higher you place on the leaderboard, the more Artcoins you'll receive.

You can view the current rewards in the Ranked Mode interface.

End of the Season

When a season ends, Ranked Battles become unavailable while the results are being calculated.

Once the calculation is complete, the system determines players' final rankings, league positions, and leaderboard standings.

Rewards are distributed according to the results achieved.

The next time you log into the game, you'll be able to review your seasonal results and earned rewards.

The competition continues in the next season. Depending on their participation in the previous season, players will either need to complete Qualification or receive an automatically assigned starting rank that takes the seasonal rank reduction into account.

How to Avoid Missing a New Season

Notifications about the start of a new season and its approaching end will help you return to Ranked Mode in time and finish competing for the rewards you want.

Keep an eye on the in-game schedule and don't leave your final battles until the very end of the season.

Important Ranked Battle Rules

Ranked Mode requires responsible participation in team battles.

Do not leave an active battle before it ends. Leaving prematurely may result in temporary restrictions on participating in Ranked Mode.

Repeated violations may lead to longer restrictions.

If your ship has already been destroyed, you can leave the battle and return to the lobby without waiting for the match to end. Your result will be recorded once the match is complete.

Remember that the result of each battle affects the rankings of your teammates. Even when things aren't going your way, keep fighting and supporting your allies.

Ranked Mode is your chance to demonstrate your skills, try different tactics, and earn well-deserved rewards.

Keep track of bonus ship classes, improve your performance, reach new leagues, and compete for a place among the best commanders of the season.

Every battle matters. See you in Ranked Battles!
